AJ Styles vs. Frank Trigg Fails To Entertain The Fans.
At the TNA PPV Sacrifice which took place on September 14th 2008 which took place at the General Motors Centre in Ontario Canada AJ Style took on Frank Trigg in a Mixed Martial Arts rules match.
A few weeks before the PPV Frank Trigg had interfered in AJ Styles’s match, costing him a TNA World Title Shot. The next week AJ challenged Frank to a match at the next pay pre view to which Frank accepted however the was to be a Mixed Martial Arts contest.
The crowed seemed hot for AJ Styles during his entrance and even started a “Lets go AJ” chant soon after the match started…. And then it all went downhill. Soon into the Mixed Martial Arts match the crowd started to get bored and small “boring” chants and booing could be heard. A couple minutes later they had seen enough and started chanting “WE WANT WRESTLING” clap clap clap clap clap… and to make matters worse, TNA’s production truck thought it would be a great idea to cut to a shot of the TNA fans chanting “We Want Wrestling.” As the match continued the crowd would heavily boo the contest and eventually a “Fire Russo” chant begin. Once again, TNA production cut to yet another close up shot of the fans yelling “Fire Russo” into the camera.
As round one was about to end AJ managed to wake up the crowd by executing a beautiful flying armbar but the round ended and the crowd continued to boo again. As round 2 started the crowd began a “THIS IS BULLSHIT” clap clap clap clap clap chant. it became apparent at this point that the contest needed to end immediately. AJ would continue lay down a flurry of punches onto Trigg and then “accidentally” hit Trigg in the groin with the knee. Trigg went to the ground holding his groin as AJ stood in the ring awaiting the referees decision. The referee rang the belt as AJ raised his hands and the crowd popped LOUD thinking AJ had won. The announcer then declared that due to an accidental low blow the contest was ruled a no contest. After this announcement the crowd began to boo HEAVILY and a very loud “BULLSHIT” chant broke out and again for the third time, TNA production cut to the angry crowd chanting. AJ would manage to please the crowd as he beat down Trigg with a kendo stick before leaving the arena.
The rivalry was over before it even began as Trigg would not be see on TNA programming again. |
