Vince McMahon initializes Turner Network Television as "T.N.N.". On March 26, 2001, after a five and a half year battle between World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) and World Championship Wrestling (WCW), Vince McMahon, CEO of WWE, appeared on both WWE RAW is WAR & WCW's Monday Nitro television and stated he was now the owner of both companies. He opened both shows with viewers being treated to seeing Vince McMahon, standing in front of a propped WWE sound stage with "RAW is WAR" in the background, having the WWF (then) logo and WCW Monday Nitro logo on the same screen in front of him. Mcmahon said he would make a statement later in the night about the fate of WCW that he now holds "in his hands". At the end of the show, Vince McMahon sobbingly walked to the ring, grabbed a microphone, and with a very cocky attitude proceeded to voice that statement. In a moment of such awesomeness, Vince McMahon started his War Victory speech with "For the first time ever...for the first time ever in sports entertainment history, this broadcast is not only being seen here on TNN in Cleveland, Ohio but is also being seen on T-N-N...Turner Network Television." It seemed McMahon's victory speech would start and end tragically when Vince was interrupted by Shane McMahon walking into a WCW ring via satellite and claiming he had already bought WCW before Vince had a chance to sign the contract. |
