Stevie Ray Incorrectly Corrects Tony Schiavone.

Poor Tony Schiavone. Surely being the lead WCW announcer for over a decade and hosting nearly every WCW program imaginable, he got to work with some of the best and worst announcers to have ever worn a headset. In World Championship Wrestling, their were plenty of the latter.. When Lee Marshall, Steve "Mongo" McMichael, Mark Madden, and Stevie Ray all graced us with their insight on WCW Monday Nitro over the years, Schiavone was right there beside them trying to decipher and ignore along with us. Sure he wasn't the best but like stated earlier, he was the lead WCW announcer for 10 years and hosted every show you could possibly think of at one point or another. He must've been doing something right.

By December of 2000, Tony Schiavone, Scott Hudson, and Stevie Ray were the three play-by-play commentators for WCW's (hardly) most-watched program Monday Nitro. After going back and listening to the Schiavone/Stevie/Hudson era, it was like discovering a comedy diamond in a coal mine. The countless times Schiavone would ignore Stevie Ray completely, even when Stevie would ask him direct questions, are priceless. Sometimes Schiavone would be struck silent by something Stevie just said, or talk to Stevie like he was the village idiot. Stevie also had a knack for inventing names for wrestling maneuvers and staying on an old subject way WAY too long. At times you could even hear the sound of Schiavone wanting to strangle Stevie Ray with his headset wire.

One example of Schiavonie's frustration was on the December 12, 2000 Monday Nitro with a match featuring The Insiders (Kevin Nash & DDP) vs. The Perfect Event of the Serial Thrillas. During the match, DDP locked on a sleeper hold to Shawn Stasiak. Mark Jindrak saw this and applied the sleeper hold to DDP. In this position, only DDP and Mark Jindrak are in place to have a jawbreaker maneuver hit on them.

And that's exactly what happened. All three men dropped with Page and Jindrak each getting a jawbreaker. Schiavone called the action...

"Double jawbreaker and every man down!"

And then, Stevie Ray sucker-punched Schiavone's double-jawbreaker comment with a proudly toned "Triple Jawbreaker!"

So Schiavone had two choices. Point out to Stevie the simple mathematics of why that was a double jawbreaker and look like an asshole, or just ignore him again. Schiavone chose to ignore the comment like the professional he tried so hard to be and continued putting up with Stevie Ray for many months.
